Jenny Lewis auditions to play Batgirl.

All Rilo’d Up

Being a huge Rilo Kiley fan from the beginning, I was elated to see them on the cover of Spin [“Solid Gold,” September]. That was the best Rilo article I’ve ever read. I’m so happy they are finally getting the credit they deserve, even if the future of the band is unclear.

Regarding your cover story on Rilo Kiley, I would just like to make it known how important Blake Sennett is. He is by no means “mediocre,” as he calls himself. Those of us who have had the pleasure of seeing his band live know how much charisma he exudes onstage. Of course, Jenny Lewis brings the majority of people to the venue, but Sennett’s stage presence and tight guitar work win over everybody.

That guy Blake from Rilo Kiley should quit his bitching and moaning. One thing is for certain: Salute Your Shorts jumped the shark when he showed up in the second season, and I’ll never forgive him for that.

Look-alike? Or not?

Thurston Moore

I cannot get over Steve Kandell’s story about hair-metal festival Rocklahoma [“Nothin’ but a Good Time,” September]. It was equal parts eye-rolling judgment and shockingly earnest admiration. I’m not sure whether I find it inspiring or annoying that the guys in Ratt can still draw a crowd, but it seems to make those two dudes from Long Island happy.

I was so relieved to read your article regarding the Smashing Pumpkins reunion [“The Billy Show,” September]. I agree with Butch Vig’s sentiment about Billy trying to re-create the Pumpkins’ image and not the band itself. The farewell of the Smashing Pumpkins began long before their 2000 breakup. It takes more than You Tube contests and three versions of the same album to resurrect that zeitgeist.

Great piece on Rocklahoma, but ease up on poor Don Dokken’s hair plugs! What will you look like when you’re in your early 50s, Mr. Kandell? Keep rokken with Dokken!
