My Morning Jacket realize they forgot to bring beads.
SCARLETT JOHANSSON DOES TOM WAITS
The first time I listened to My Morning Jacket [“The James Gang,” May], my buddy handed me a joint and demanded I hold the smoke until the end of the track. But even that couldn’t compare with the first time I saw them live. They’re loud as hell and make me proud to be from Louisville!

Vinyl Solution
I thoroughly enjoyed Amanda Petrusich’s article on the resurgence of vinyl [“Like a Cockroach!” May]. It explained almost perfectly why people love owning records, and why in the future people will still be buying them while using CDs as drink coasters. Working in a music store, I always get a little geekily excited when someone brings vinyl to the register, and I hope that Petrusich’s article will encourage even more readers to dig out their old record players.
impressed with Bob Mehr’s article [“Unsatisfied”]. It delivered truths about the band, their dysfunction, their brilliance, and their lasting (if underacknowledged) influence on popular music. Thanks!
beautiful obit brought redemption [“God Only Knows,” May]. Thank you for honoring Larry’s memory in your pages, and thank you for being on top of things. Rock on!

It would be unsettling to see the Replacements (even with Chris Mars) reunite. However, to jump onstage and say, “Fuck the legacy!” is a very ’Mats-esque move. You should have put them on the cover.
Correction
In a caption on page 111 of the May issue, Vetiver’s Otto Hauser was misidentified as Andy Cabic. Hauser is in the center; Cabic is on the far right.
