Thanks for the Beck cover
story [“Reverberation,”
September], especially
for the clarifications
about his association
with Scientology. As a
longtime Beck fan, I have
been curious about the
Scientology connection
since I first heard Stephen
Colbert mention it on
“This Week in God” oh so
long ago. Beck has a great
perspective on touring
with children, although I
was sad to read that this
could be his last tour.
Beck, don’t stop before
you hit Boston!

Hell to Pay I just finished reading the article about Stanton LaVey [“Speak of the Devil,” September], and I’m so angry I can barely type! This sick and twisted man may only be “making art about killing people,” but I find him to be a loathsome, repulsive excuse for a human being. The very fact that he played in a band whose name, 8/8, commemorates the date the Manson Family slaughtered innocent people makes my blood boil. It’s important for young people to know that Charles Manson and Stanton LaVey are not cool. They aren’t role models. Charles Manson is a murderer, and LaVey seems to be a talentless Hollywood hanger-on who only exists to sleep with porn stars and inspire confidence in serial killers. It’s a sad commentary on our society that we look up to
Heroes Worship I was in the audience for Gym Class Heroes’ Warped Tour set this summer in St. Louis, and I would like to say that the incident mentioned in “High Rollers” [September] was incredibly embarrassing for the rest of us. [An audience member shouted a racial slur at frontman Travis McCoy.] Guys, sorry it happened and that it interrupted an otherwise amazing set. ELIZABETH HOFFMANN ST. LOUIS
Clarifications In “Speak of the Devil,” Stanton LaVey asserted that he and Hank III had played in a band called 8/8. While they have recorded a song together, Hank III has never been in 8/8 with LaVey. Also, a review of the Stills’ Oceans Will Rise in the September issue incorrectly stated that the band had “ditched” their singer prior to their 2006 album, Without Feathers. Singer-guitarist Greg Paquet left of his own accord.

No Stain, No Gain As I was reading your article on Ladies and Gentlemen the Fabulous Stains [“Absolutely Fabulous,” September], I realized that I saw it years ago when it played on HBO. I still don’t really know who Diane Lane is, and I haven’t watched HBO since 1984, but
