“Shooting these bands was cool for me because they’re all based in my hometown of New York,” says the photographer. “Everyone was great to work with, especially Lissy Trullie and her bandmates.” Martensen has also shot for i-D, Nylon, and The New York Times.

Neko Case (page 58)
Senior editor Carpenter, who
rejoined the SPIN editorial
staff in July after a three-year
absence, made a new friend
while interviewing Case—or so

“I thought we had some special bond, but Neko said she was just a whore.” Favorite Neko Case album: Furnace Room Lullaby

If Samberg was trying to bribe his interviewer with food, he didn’t do a great job. “He treated me to breakfast, which says he’s loaded,” laughs Sellers. “I only had a $2 bagel, but still.” The Brooklyn resident has written for GQ and The New York Times, and is the author of Perfect From Now On: How Indie Rock Saved My Life (Simon & Schuster). Favorite Samberg short: “Lazy Sunday”
