Lily’s in Bloom

Loved the Lily Allen interview [“The Girl Can’t Help It,” February]. Though it appears as if you caught the poor dear at a particularly vulnerable time, she’s still about as real as today’s pop divas get. There’s something quite charming about owning up to one’s contradictions.

“GOD FORBID OC TIMES END UP SIGNING WITH A
MAJOR LABEL. IF SO, I’LL BE DRIVING THE LITTLE

SISTER AND GRANDPA TO THE SAME DAMN CONCERT!”
Same Old Song?

I was hoping it’d be another decade or so before I had to endure another hair-gel-heavy boy band, but OC Times seem intent on bringing “backstreet” back [“Imperfect Harmony,” February]. And Lord Almighty, they sing barbershop! God forbid they end up signing with a major label. If so, I’ll be driving the little sister and grandpa to the same damn concert.

Lily Allen’s insecurities are without merit. That is the hottest cover ever! A funny Brit who can sing and likes older men and chickens? I’m in love!

I noticed that in your story on OC Times, there was no mention whatsoever of an American band that has been thrilling massive crowds with old barbershop songs for nearly 25 years: Phish. I would like a little more respect for the greatest fuckin’ band on the planet, and all the very cool people who love them so much.

Flowers Power The interview with Brandon Flowers [The Interview, February] made my subscription even more worth it! And by the way, February’s issue is just fabulous.

Inspiration Point

It’s been a long time since the creative drive within me stirred, but the photos in your December 2008 issue [“M. I.A. Pow”] were so vivid in capturing the raw vitality of this young artist that

I became inspired [see drawing at le t]. I only hope she isn’t offended.

I just finished reading your cover story on Lily Allen. The interview does a wonderful job at exposing just how hypocritical this young woman is. So she feels fat and ugly sometimes. How is she different from any other 25-year- old woman in most of the world?

Design of the Times

I’m a loyal reader who has been a subscriber to for at least a half-decade now. I have seen the magazine go through a lot of changes; some I liked and some I didn’t. This time, I’ve decided to weigh in: I find the recent design changes particularly pleasing. The aesthetics are clean and classy and have really streamlined things.

I feel compelled to turn Lily Allen’s favorite rhetorical device back at her and say, “Shut up!” Please shut up. I swear, we get that you’re a cheeky madcap.
