About Our Host His new album, The Bridge, may be his rst in 21 years, but the DJ (born Joseph Saddler)—whose 1982 single “The Message,” recorded with the Furious Five, was the rst hip-hop song added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry—hasn’t been sitting idly at home. “I’m always spinning somewhere in the world,” says the germ-averse Flash, 51. “You can hear that in my record—it’s paced like a DJ set. That’s how hip-hop used to be: a lot of trial but not a lot of error.”
