Benefit of No Doubt
I just read the No Doubt cover story [“Back in the Saddle,” May] and I loved it! It seems that while they’re confident they still rock, they’re also a bit nervous about flopping.
But they shouldn’t be! They’re fuckin’ awesome! I am traveling all the way from some hick town in Alabama to see them in San Diego. I think that shows what kind of fans they have.

I tried to read your article on No Doubt with an open mind. I liked them once, but their novelty has worn off. It was annoying to read about how Gwen Stefani doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her, but is terrified that no one is going to come see their show, which will feature no new music. You want people to come to your show? Get to work.

I was disappointed with your article on No Doubt. It seemed like the writer had heavy doubts about their future success. But as a member of the No Doubt community, I can tell you that the news of this tour has kicked up a flurry of excitement among even the oldest of fans, and the only doubt among us is over whether we’ll be able to get great seats.

you can’t find something to do with your mind while you’re locked up, you’ll go crazy. There’s only so much time you can spend pacing in a cell hating yourself before you’re not even a person anymore. Mr. Peisner wants to sit around talking about a problem he knows very little about, while Mr. Sobin is out there trying to do something about it.

convicts. Truth is, I’ve even sent artwork to Sobin’s foundation, something I’ll no longer do, as
I just say no when it comes to sex offenders. Sobin doesn’t get to innocently film a nude child. That would be like Phil Spector innocently going into a gun shop. Still, I support the ideals behind the foundation. Now, can’t we get a new mascot already?

I just picked up the No Doubt issue. I want to say that I love the direction SPIN continues to go in. I think the layout looks amazing and you guys are doing a great job!

No Doubt seemed weirdly defensive about touring. You don’t need a new album to justify a tour—what is this, the ’90s? (oh, wait…) Seriously, though, who cares? New songs come when they come; for now, I’ll take “Spiderwebs” and “New.”

Hard Cell As an inmate in the Texas prison system, I wasn’t surprised that David Peisner chose to focus more on Dennis Sobin’s various crimes and misdeeds in his article [“Jailhouse rock,” May] than on what he’s trying to do with his program and what the Prisons Foundation is about. If
I’m a 31-year-old convict, and I have to say that your article on Dennis Sobin irritated me for one reason: It is always the sexopathic vermin like Sobin who catch the public eye, and as convict mascots, they suck! however, the need for the Prisons Foundation is a valid one. creativity is the means to reconnect us to our humanity—everyone, not just

I love your magazine, and I quite enjoyed David Peisner’s article on Mastodon [“Bang Your head,” May]. In today’s music world, bands that rock as hard as Mastodon are disappearing. Everything seems to be laptop computers and folk guitars.
